Volunteer Opportunities

Fall/Winter 2009 volunteer opportunities include:

Moonlight Martini Madness
Join the Friends for a night of martinis, music and our annual moonlight madness sale. To make this happen, we’ll need help in a few different areas:

Christmas Decorating, November 26
Before the event begins, we'd like to spruce up the information centre a little. Candles, snowflakes and, of course, the martini bar! If you're interested in having some fun putting up holiday decorations, we'd love your help!

Moonlight Martini Madness, November 27
Join us for this fun event! We have a number of jobs including membership sales, bartenders, bouncers, clean up and more!

Forensics Program

The forensics program was developed as an essential educational component of the Wildlife Monitoring Project which is a joint project between the Friends of Jasper NP and Parks Canada. During the program, students learn about forensic investigation into poaching incidents in Jasper National Park.

Volunteers will work alongside experts and help students work through a number of stations as they unfold the mystery behind a fictitious poaching scenario in the park.

Sign Installation

The Friends were recently awarded the Alberta Tourism Award for their work on the Jasper Discovery Trail Interpretive Signage project. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the final signs and are looking for eager volunteers to help with their installation over the next couple of weeks. Tools and instruction will be provided.

Website

The Friends are working on a brand new website and are looking for input from some web-savvy volunteers. We’re looking for someone that has an interest in web design, a knack for all things technological and a strong knowledge of web technologies such as Twitter and Facebook.

Board Members

Be part of a fun and dynamic organization. As a member of the board, you will work with others to set the direction of the organization. Board members are involved in programs, projects and special events but also meet monthly to discuss operational goals. An average of ten hours per month is required, which may vary at different times of the year.

Full Moon Hikes

Be a volunteer guide for an evening hike under the full moon. The Friends offer these popular hikes each month along various trails throughout the park.

The Friends will be training guides on a newly-developed program over the next month. If you have a valid first-aid certificate and are looking to gain guiding experience or just want to get outdoors, let us know and we can set up a training day for you.

Christmas Bird Count

Wear your boots and bring your binoculars for our annual winter bird count. The Friends will help coordinate this special day, with treats and warm drinks afterwards. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, December 20.

Gift Shop Assistant

The Friends of Jasper National Park gift shop raises funds for programs and projects happening in Jasper National Park. As a gift shop assistant, you will gain valuable experience and training in customer service, cash operations, stock replenishment, inventory control and retail displays. Flexible shifts (2-5 hours) are available for those interested in an ongoing volunteering opportunity.

Newsletter Lunches

Come out to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones while helping fold the latest issue of the Friends’ Nature Calls newsletter. Volunteers are asked to help at a lunch hour 2-3 times throughout the year.
